Sony Corporation has announced that it will serve as an official partner of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 (WCH Tokyo 25), scheduled to take place at the Japan National Stadium from September 13–21, 2025.

Through a mix of advanced technology, creative support, and social initiatives, Sony aims to elevate the entertainment value of the event for fans, athletes, and media professionals worldwide.

At the championships, Sony’s wide portfolio, including its flagship Alpha mirrorless cameras, G Master lenses, portable data transmitters, system cameras, and broadcasting solutions, will power news coverage and production. These technologies will enable photographers and videographers to capture and share the action in real time, bringing fans closer to the athletes’ performances.

As part of the World Athletics Media Academy, Sony will host a workshop for 11 emerging photographers from across the globe. With guidance from world-class professionals, participants will receive hands-on training and on-track access, nurturing the next generation of sports journalists while encouraging new storytelling perspectives.

Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony group company, will deploy its officiating support system across all track and field events. Its video replay service will provide judges with multiple camera angles to ensure fair and accurate decisions. Verified disqualification footage, along with athlete graphics, will also be shared with broadcasters to give viewers greater clarity on officiating calls.

Sony will set up a Camera Service Booth at the Media Centre, offering accredited photographers access to approximately 150 cameras and 600 lenses. On-site engineers and support staff will assist creators to ensure smooth workflows, while also gathering direct product feedback to inform future innovations.

In collaboration with Project KIBO, led by former Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai, Sony will invite children and their guardians to the stadium for an immersive experience. Beyond watching the competition, children will take part in a running workshop on the track and try sports photography using Alpha cameras under professional guidance.

From September 5–22, Sony will host a special exhibition, “WORLD ATHLETICS MOMENTS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE,” at the Sony Store Ginza. The showcase will feature WCH Tokyo 25 photography, along with a motion-tracking experience based on Hawk-Eye’s technology. During the championships, visitors at the stadium can also explore Sony’s on-site booth, testing the Alpha series and the latest E-mount lenses.
