Press Trust of India (PTI) has appointed Amanpreet Singh as Managing Editor, effective January 1, 2026, as part of a wider newsroom restructuring.
The appointment was announced by PTI CEO and Editor in Chief Vijay Joshi in an internal communication to staff on New Year’s Eve. Joshi said the changes, which have been under planning for the past six months, aim to strengthen leadership across PTI’s text and photo operations.
Singh joins PTI from Hindustan Times, where he served as Deputy Executive Editor and oversaw the daily edition. A recipient of the Ramnath Goenka Award, Singh is also a trained lawyer. His professional interests include macroeconomics, law, data-driven reporting and long-form journalism.
In his message, Joshi commended PTI’s newsroom for its performance in 2025, highlighting its commitment to accurate, balanced and credible journalism despite challenging conditions.
As part of the transition, senior editor Sudhakar Nair will retire on March 31, 2026. Joshi described Nair as a key pillar of PTI’s journalism and said he will continue in his role for the time being, assisting Singh as he familiarises himself with the organisation, its work culture and editorial processes.
Nair began his career at PTI in 1979 as a trainee sub-editor in New Delhi and has spent nearly 47 years with the organisation. During his tenure, he contributed to numerous major stories on national and state politics and served as PTI’s correspondent in Germany from 1998 to 2001.
