The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to release the schedule for the first 20 days of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) by March 12–13, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
Saikia revealed that the tournament schedule will be announced in phases due to upcoming state assembly elections in several parts of India.
Explaining the delay, Saikia stated that the board had to wait for clarity on election dates before finalising the fixtures.
Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, “We will announce the first 20-day schedule of IPL in two or three days after considering the election dates in a few states and will announce the rest of the tournament schedule later.”
The remaining fixtures of the tournament will be released once the Election Commission of India (ECI) confirms the full election timetable.
Meanwhile, the start date for the new season was officially confirmed during the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team. The IPL 2026 season will begin on March 28, 2026.
