Green Graphite Technologies (GGT) announced that it has been awarded $682K in funding through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network’s (OVIN) R&D Partnership Fund – Electric Vehicle (EV) Stream.
This grant will advance GGT’s technology to produce high-purity natural graphite, a critical material in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for EVs.
In collaboration with Rain Carbon Canada Inc., GGT aims to refine and scale up its proprietary process for producing high-purity natural graphite battery anode materials, ensuring it meets the rigorous standards required for next-generation EV batteries.
This partnership brings together GGT’s cutting-edge graphite purification technology and Rain Carbon’s extensive expertise in carbon precursors, carbon material processing and coating, creating a powerful synergy that will drive innovation and sustainability in the EV sector.
The project, with a total budget of $2.05 million, is designed to enhance battery performance and longevity while reducing the environmental impact of battery production.
“Though the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, our government is proud to support strategic projects that will reinforce Ontario’s leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) industry and accelerate the commercialization of innovative technology. We congratulate Green Graphic Technologies Inc and Rain Carbon Canada Inc. on their partnership and look forward to seeing their combined expertise driving economic growth and advance the delivery of graphite across our growing EV supply chain,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.
“Our focus is on developing sustainable and efficient materials that are critical to the success of the EV industry. This project, supported by OVIN, is a significant step forward in our mission to deliver high-quality graphite that will power the future of transportation in Ontario and beyond,” said Gillian Holcroft, CEO of Green Graphite Technologies Inc.
“This partnership exemplifies the strength of Ontario’s innovation ecosystem and the critical role it plays in shaping the future of electric vehicle technology. Through the OVIN R&D Partnership Fund, we are proud to support Green Graphite Technologies as they advance sustainable solutions for high-purity graphite production, strengthening Ontario’s EV supply chain and reinforcing the province’s leadership in clean technology and advanced manufacturing,” said Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI).
