Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has announced the appointment of Amrut Medhekar as the Chief Executive Officer of its CDMO business, effective August 24, 2024.
Medhekar will report directly to Sanjeev Jain and Sandeep Jain, the Joint Managing Directors of Akums.
With over 27 years of extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Medhekar brings a wealth of expertise in corporate strategy, business leadership, key account management, portfolio strategy, and supply management.
Before joining Akums, he served as the President of India Business at Wockhardt, where he spearheaded significant growth initiatives. His illustrious career also includes key roles at the Zydus Group, Novartis, JK Tyre and Industries, Life Medicare Biotech, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, and Ranbaxy.

Amrut Medhekar brings a robust academic background, including an Executive MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, an Executive Program in Finance from XLRI, and a Management Development Program (MDP) from MDI Gurgaon. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. In addition to his academic credentials, Amrut has served as a Jury Member for the HULT Prize US$ 1M Challenge at IIM Ahmedabad and has been an honorary speaker at various prestigious management institutes, including FMS, Symbiosis, AIMA, and UpGrad.
